Maury Flores graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Tegucigalpa back in 1967. Born in Tegucigalpa in 1950, his first job was a as a drawer in a Tegucigalpa architecture firm, where he developed the habit of fragmenting space, a strong characteristic of the cubist school. Without doubt, his cubist style sets him apart from the other important contemporary painters in Honduras, and he has become one of the more solicited painters in the country. Born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Maury Flores is heavily inspired by the city from where he takes multiple elements, such as parks, plazas, buildings and people to create his original artwork. As an artist, Flores has participated successfully in a series of national and international exhibitions, some of which include an individual exhibit at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C., the International Art Exposition celebrated at the Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fl in 1993 as well as a permanent exposition at the Marriott Gallery in Panama City, Panama. His work is well known in the national realm of art collectors, and can be seen at important public buildings, such as the presidential Building and the National Congress in Tegucigalpa. They are also found at some of the better hotels in the country, such as the Marriott Tegucigalpa Hotel. Maury Flores is without doubt an authentic artist, with a very personal style and used to making his own rules as far as art is concerned. He has also had a habit of generously cooperating with philanthropic actions, donating valuable paintings for auctions to raise funds for the more good causes. He currently lives in Tegucigalpa, on the road to El Picacho, overlooking the city and can be found at telephone 211-9181. |
